Puptables came to be after my fur baby, Bullet aka Bully, began suffering from severe skin allergies. Vets kept saying he had dermatitis and that it wasn’t related to his diet. He had mange as a puppy so it was the easy diagnosis, but not the correct one. Bully was constantly medicated with different antibiotics and products, and while those worked when he was on them, the skin issues returned as soon as he wasn’t. It took nearly two years and a major process of elimination to figure out the culprit: all things chicken – including disgusting byproduct, bone meal and additives.
It turns out nearly all kibble in the market contains some form of those. The more I learned how prevalent all these nasties are in pet food, the more frustrated I became. It’s like feeding your dog fast food every day – of course they’re going to get sick! I decided to take matters into my own hands by researching and making his food myself. I started with raw certified angus beef to fully eliminate every fake product from his diet. From there, I added beef stock for extra protein, but he was still missing key nutrients. All the research I did showed that a variety of fruits and vegetables would be the best natural source of those nutrients. I scoured the market for a product like that to mix with the raw beef, but couldn’t find anything up to par. After introducing the first blend I created, Skin & Coat, to Bully’s diet, his health improved drastically. It only got better from there and now he’s happy, healthy and eating WELL!
Puptables is a real passion project for me, not only because Bully and I went through similar health issues simultaneously, but for my true love for bully breeds. I think it’s incredibly important to spread knowledge and information on these types of dogs to help shed their unfairly bad reputation. In doing my research for the different blends, I learned that these breeds are more likely to have skin problems because of how often they’re inbred to get their coat colors. While our blends were initially created specifically for bully breed health, we realized they offer health benefits for dogs across the board. I am so excited to be able to share these blends with people who care for their pets the same way I do – as part of my family.
